[ css ] layout tweak
The coding/help/whatever for making a top level comments only link appear on a journal!
So, for the network games (Sabra, Thusia, CFUD, Aather), we use a network page to navigate the many journal posts and game posts. All of these games also have the general habit of having posts with hundreds of comments. Luckily, DW has a super cool feature!

Here is what a comment set of links might look like when you're on the entry! Clicking on "Top-level comments only" reduces the 265 comments that have to load into 5 comments! Basically this feature shows only the top-most parent comments to an entry!

What our network looks like right now! Thanks to the lovely

wandering! This is the TABULA RASA layout with cool things on top of it.
Some of you have used layers before and some haven't. (Layers is how you get LJ specific layouts like flexibile squares to show up on DW).
SO GO TO 'SELECT STYLE'.

'DEVELOPER AREA'

[ EDIT - if you are comfortable with editing layers you can also just click 'edit' of the layer which corresponds to your layout and paste the coding in there! You can change ' »' to display as whatever you want, as well. ]
'YOUR LAYERS' and once there scroll down to 'CREATE LAYER'. In the first box make it say 'LAYOUT' and in the second make sure it is on '2'. Then hit 'CREATE'

You'll want to find the layer you just made. My area has ... a lot of them, but the easiest way to find the layer you just made is look for the one that has (none) in the third column. Click on Edit.

THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL PASTE YOUR LAYOUT CODING.

You can find all of DW's public layers over here. For Aathernet I went to Tabula Rasa and then Raw Source Code.
CTRL+A THE RAW SOURCE CODE, and then paste into the blank window. (I like to ctrl+a the layer window just to make sure I completely paste over whatever leftover code or whatever is hanging in there).
And then add at the bottom somewhere.
It should give you a COMPILED WITH NO ERRORS.

Click 'back to layers list'. Then you can go back to Select a style. Go down to YOUR CUSTOM LAYERS. Your layout layer should be there! Click it and then edit as normal!
When using this workaround the little pictures at the bottom where you select how many columns the layout has is absent. So look for 'Layout Type' and select the sidebar options from the drop down.
And then we add our customizations back and we have this:

I think this should work for any of the layouts on DW. It borked out for me on my personal flex squares layout, but I am sure there is just editing required since DW and LJ use different words for things sometimes.
Major thanks to DW for having a top level only option,
unicorn for the suggestion,
wandering for the lovely network and
matgb for the coding I altered to make this possible :B
AS A NOTE if you force DW to display in YOUR style (the ?style mine) this workaround won't work! To turn that off go here and look for 'Show my journal's entry pages in my chosen style instead of the site skin'. Uncheck the box and it will work fine.
Also I am pretty sure you can just edit a layer and paste in the coding 8|a but I am much better at making extremely unwieldy CSS edits, it seems.
